Dr. Ahmet Helvacioglu (Dr. Helva)
Dr. Ahmet Helva is one of the premier Gynecology and Reproductive Endocrinology Specialists
in the Southeast. With nearly 40 years of vast experience in his field, Dr. Helva is a trusted
professional and is considered to be extremely knowledgeable in the areas of Reproduction
and Gynecologic medicine. Born in Amasya, Turkey, Dr. Helva pursued his medical degree
at Hacettepe University in Ankara, Turkey. After finishing his post-graduate studies, which
included a residency at the University of Chicago followed by a fellowship at Michael Reese
Hospital in Chicago, he began his career in his home of Istanbul, as a Professor of Obstetrics and
Gynecology at a newly established Marmara University. During his mandatory military service,
he was the head of Obstetrics and Gynecology Services at 400-Bed Corlu Army Hospital.
After completion of military service, he returned to Istanbul to establish the first full spectrum
private Fertility Center at The Pasteur French Hospital, and also worked as active staff member
at Deuthches Krankenhaus , The Admiral Bristol Hospital, and as an Adjunct Professor at
Marmara University. During these years in Turkey, and in conjunction with The Pasteur French
Hospital, Dr. Helva was responsible for opening the first full spectrum fertility center in Istanbul.
This center had been providing fertility services to patients within Istanbul for more than twenty
years.
In 1988 Dr. Helva re-located to Mobile, AL, to become a professor at the University of South
Alabama. He continued to teach at the University through 1997 and served as the Acting
Director for the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology of Department of OBGYN in 1991.
In 1997, Dr. Helva formed Gynecology and Infertility Associates, P.C. in Fairhope, AL and
continues to serve the South Alabama community as a leader in this sub-specialized field.
Dr. Helva is board certified and holds medical licenses in Illinois, Alabama, and Michigan
in the United States and Turkey. Since 1988, he has been assigned to over 20 healthcare
committees in Alabama including many at the University of South Alabama and Thomas
Hospital. While continuing to serve as a visiting professor in his native Turkey from 1991-1995
and administering eight research grants, Dr. Helva published more than 40 articles and wrote
17 book abstracts. Since 1999 he has given 27 lectures within the states of Alabama and Florida
for various medical societies and communities, and plans to continue to do so as long as he is
practicing medicine.

Kittie Helvacioglu (Helva) RN, MSN, WHNP
Kittie Helva has been providing care for patients in the greater Fairhope area at Gynecology
and Infertility Specialists, P.C. since 2007. She provides care for women seeking contraception,
hormone replacement therapy, annual examination, weight loss, medical aspects of coping with
life issues, and non-surgical gynecological problems.
Beginning her career as a Registered Nurse (RN), Kittie has worked in obstetrics and gynecology
for nearly thirty years. Having served as a Staff RN in the labor and delivery ward for fifteen
years, Kittie was appointed Director of The Birth Center at Thomas Hospital in 1998. This
was a fifteen-bed facility that performed approximately 900 deliveries every year. Assuming
full responsibility for staff recruitment, education, evaluation, counseling, budget, JCAHO
requirements, grant proposals, performance management, managing bed assignments and
staffing needs at the hospital, this nursing unit earned greater than 95% patient satisfaction scores
and received the highest awards of any other department under Kittie’s tenure as Director. She
resigned from this position in 2002 to pursue her Masters in Nursing, but continued to work for
Thomas Hospital as a Staff RN through 2005.
Kittie holds her Diploma in Nursing from Baptist Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in
Texas, and her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Nursing from the University of South
Alabama.
